STEAM Event @ Vinton Public Library
Join us at the library for our first STEAM event! STEAM supplies gratefully received through a grant from the Benton County Community Foundation. Enjoy playing with the magnetic mobile wall, wind tunnel, balls & ramps, light panel, geoboards, and kevaplanks. Children 11 and younger should be accompanied by an adult during this event.

ISU Student Role Models presents 4 STEM Exploration camps per semester that provides experiences into different fields of STEM for 8th to 10th grade students. Each camp is led by Iowa State University students who are currently studying each specific field. *This is not a school sponsored event*

Vinton Shellsburg Seniors, it’s local scholarship time! Stop into the library on Saturday, March 23rd to work on your college and trade school scholarship applications. We’ll have study aids, snacks, and experienced professionals on hand to answer your questions and provide essay feedback.

We’re excited to host another hair and beauty night at the library! Come learn tips and tricks from a local professional in the salon industry! Tammy Fett, owner and stylist from New Beginnings Salon and Spa, will be demonstrating hair styling trends and makeup techniques! This event is for ages pre-teen through adult; hope to see you there!

Kid Author Event
Do you know a child that loves to write or draw stories?! Vinton Public Library is hosting a Kid Author Event! Local children are encouraged to write their own story and have a meet and greet with the public. Children will come to the event, share their story, sign autographs, and can have a chance to read their story aloud. 3 Age Categories *Kindergarten-2nd Grade *3rd-5th Grade *6th-12th Grade Writing Requirements: 1. Stories can be handwritten or typed 2. Must not exceed more than 20 pages 3. 10,000 word limit 4. Must be on 8.5 x 11 inch paper 5. Written in any format you would like: picture book, chapter book, graphic novel 6. Can include illustrations/pictures (no copyright) 7. Turn in your story to the Vinton Public Library by March 1st We look forward to reading your stories!

ACT Raising Safe Kids
Have you ever wondered if you are on the right path when parenting your children? If you would like to strengthen your parenting skills with children birth to age 8, join other parents and caregivers to learn about positive parenting practices that help create stable, safe, healthy, and nurturing environments and relationships. In the series of lessons parents and caregivers will gain strategies for: Dealing with children’s difficult behaviors using developmentally appropriate responses; Controlling their own anger; Helping children control their anger; Teaching children how to resolve conflicts without using violence; Using positive discipline methods that fit the children’s age; and Reducing the influence of media violence on children. Foster parent credit is available.
